Description:
The title of this piece comes from a Townes Van
Zandt song which came to him in a dream. That song, To Live is to Fly,
was delivered to him fully written one night sleeping off a serious flu with a
head full of antibiotics and cough syrup. The dream was so vivid that he awoke
after it was done, wrote it down, and went back to bed. I am just waking up now
and writing this down.
This triptych of prints was made with a photo taken with my iphone in panoramic mode. I deliberately moved the camera up and down sporadically while moving it across the landscape in panoramic mode creating slippages of information loss and gain. The pictorial anomalies of these prints confuse our relationship to nature as it is mediated through images. I think of this as an alternative tool for understanding, revealing the hidden by challenging what we think and expect pictures should look like.
